  • Starting from December 1, 2023, designated post-secondary learning institutions (DLIs) will be mandated to independently validate each applicant’s letter of acceptance with IRCC. This upgraded verification process is designed to shield prospective students from fraudulent letter-of-acceptance schemes, preventing problems akin to those encountered earlier this year due to fraud investigations. Additionally, it ensures that study permits are only issued in response to legitimate letters of acceptance.
  • By the fall semester of 2024, IRCC will adopt a “recognized institution” framework that will offer advantages to post-secondary DLIs that uphold elevated standards in services, support, and outcomes for international students.

These DLIs will enjoy benefits like expedited processing of study permits for their prospective students.

  • In the coming months, IRCC will conduct an evaluation of the criteria for the Post-Graduation Work Permit Program and initiate reforms to align it more effectively with the demands of the Canadian labor market, regional considerations, and Francophone immigration objectives.
